What is the best non-surgical treatment for a herniated and degenerative disc?
Physical therapy and accupuncture give the impression of being to help some and I don't want surgery and am trying to avoid a cortisone shot. Any suggestions for more "organic" treatments? Thanks

The single thing that really worked for me be the shot the above poster is speaking of. It's an epidural steroid injection. I am sorry to not give a better answer. It be an out-patient procedure - i had it done within November of 2004 and have have no problems since. It's been wonderful. I hold a herniation at L4/L5 and L5/S1 and was surrounded by tremendous pain. I have had one of the shots years ago when i first hurt my hindmost and it didn't help, but this one - i'm not sure if the stars be aligned just right or what, but it's be 2 years and knock on wood! :)
The shot itself was painless - they pale you up with lidacaine first and next will inject a pain slaughterer also. There is a little pinch and afterwards pressure and they have to inject it slowly - approaching over a few minutes - and then it's over - i construe it took maybe 20 minutes total.
I have tried just going on for everything - chiropractor, adjustments, herbal wraps, psychotherapy ...

Unfortunately, I cannot mull over of any "organic" treatment. I do however know of a procedure in which you can be awake the entire time. This procedure is done surrounded by a interventional radiology room. I forget the technical first name of it but they inject a cement like substance into the disc space and you are competent to leave the hospital that afternoon. It is relatively painless and takes much smaller quantity time to recover than antediluvian time surgery.
