Kidney failure...wouldn't touch it beside a barge pole. Just because something is "natural" does not mean it doesn't hold side effects. It's never a good belief to self-diagnose and self-treat depression. See a doctor.
i would ask the doctor, i found it useful though I whip St. Johns wort. I like it. I do not cart it in excess and the just symptom that I have received surrounded by extra sensitivity to light sometimes.
I read that you can also catch liver damage when the product is taken surrounded by excess.
Here is a link for some side effects:

Hypercin within SJW will in time bring light sensitivity & variety you more susceptible to sunburn - reversible once you stop taking it.

I didn't like St John's Wort, but I find along okay with 5htp (L-5-Hydroxytryptophan). Take 50-100mg later thing at darkness with a carbo snack or some milk. It'll abet you get to sleep as in good health. I've found that it helps my depression far better than any prescribed med that I've ever taken. I pilfer the Serotone brand. You can get it at robustness food stores or over the 'net.
