HELP PLEASE hypnosis & smoking does it work?

I m thinking about going to a group hypnosis session...does anybody know if this really works...I know you own to want to stop smoking(which I do) and be receptive to hypnosis...but is it succesful

Answer:
As a hypnotherapist I've treated deeply of people who looked-for to stop smoking and can say it is extremely powerful. It's a habit formed on a sub-conscious rank and so hypnosis is great at dealing with it.

Group sessions I am not so sure roughly as you don't get the individual treatment. Yes, they are cheaper than one on one sessions, but shop arround as I know prices change from lb40 up to lb500 here for exactly the same session and the lb40 one is merely as effective as the lb500 one.

You could also use a hypnosis or subliminal program as these can be awfully effective. I use these near some of my clients and people hold given up smoking from the cd's alone.

The following information was taken from New Scientist vol 136 issue 1845-31 October 92, page 6: Cognitive reaction to smoking relapse by Elliot Wald, Tami J Eggelston PhD & Frederick Gibbson PhD.

"Hypnosis is the most effective passageway of giving up smoking, according to the largest ever scientific comparison of ways of breaking the quirk. Willpower, it turns out, counts for very little.

Smokers are coming beneath increasing pressure to quit. Earlier this month the Institute of Actuaries published the results of a study it commissioned which showed that the mortality rate for smokers is twice as high as for non-smokers, and that on average a smoker dies 6 years closer than a non-smoker. Surveys suggest that three in four smokers would close to to give up, according to the anti-smoking movement Action on Smoking and Health (ASH). To find the most effective channel to give up smoking, frank Schmidt and research student Chockalingam Viswesvaran of the University of Iowa carried out a meta-analysis, statistically combining the results of more than 600 studies covering almost 72,000 culture from North America, Scandinavia and elsewhere in Europe. By combining the results from so plentiful separate studies, the meta-analysis enables the unadulterated effectiveness of respectively technique to be picked out from the statistical "noise" that often blights studies involving smaller numbers of subjects. The results, published surrounded by the current issue of the journal of, show that the average nouns rate for all methods be 25%: that is, with the sole purpose about two surrounded by five smokers is likely to succeed using methods covered by the study. Patients told they have serious cardiac disorders, and so a clear incentive to stop immediately, have the highest quitting rate, at 36 per cent. But for most smokers the most successful technique was hypnosis, which included 48 studies covering over 6000 smokers, give an average success rate of 80 per cent for this method.

"Combination" technique, combining, for example, exercise and breathing therapy come second with a nouns rate of 29 per cent. Smoke aversion, in which smokers enjoy their own warm, stale cigarette smoke blown posterior into their faces, achieve a 25 per cent success rate, followed by acupuncture at 24 per cent.

The most minuscule successful method turned out to be advice from GPs, which appears to convince virtually not a soul to give up. Self-help, contained by the form of books or mail-order advice, achieve modest success around 9 per cent, while nicotine gum be little better at 10 per cent.

"We found that involvement of physicians did not have as big an impact as we expected", said Schmidt, "We speculate that the cause is that it is the content of the treatment that matters, and not the status of the human being giving it." David Pollock, director of ASH, said he was surprised by the nouns of hypnosis, which anecdotal evidence had suggested be not very significant. One organization not surprised by the results is the British Society of Medical and Dental Hypnosis. Christopher Pattinson, the society's scholarly chairman, said that current hypnosis techniques are a far cry from their popular carving of music-hall tricks involving swinging fob watches. The latest relaxation technique achieve nouns rates of up to 80 per cent from a single session, he said"

Wishing you all the best

Try quitting on your own first. I smoked for 15 years and be up to 3 packs a hours of daylight and then sooner or later decided it be time for me to quit and I did. I used the nicotine patches (walmart brand is cheaper) for conceivably a month and a half consequently went past its sell-by date of those. Believe me if I can quit you can.....toothpicks and straws to chew on and play with (keep your fingers and mouth occupied), gum, mints (I found those soft little mints resembling you can find at parties worked great) try to use sugar free when possible, I kept alot of the 100 cal pack snackers on foot cause you will be reaching for stuff. I am still going through some withdraw but am so glad I quit! My skin is better, my sense of smell is better and now I undeniably cannot stand the smell of cig smoke at all! GOODLUCK!!!
Depends on how much you will bring back out of it.But if it's costing you money you may as well stay home.Unless you really want to quit. The patch works as long as you wear it.I've have everything you can mention and it didn't stop me but guess I love smoking and I find it a better nerve pill than shelling out money and big money for boldness pills.Go for it but you still need willpower.
I can't answer that on a smokers' smooth , never having smoked - but I can make clear to you that hypnosis works . Not a one-time thing , but a series or regular hypnosis sessions . I would voice daily for a smoking infatuation until you kick it . You may want to try a professional ( within person ) for the first time but i.e. not absolutely prerequisite . Find a book store that has self-hypnosis tape or Cd's and follow the instructions . Hypnosis can be used for a variety of things .I've tried both methods and find them equally efficient .
is your question: does hypnosis work for curing smoking? the answer is NO. hypnosis is not what you see surrounded by the movies (and what this company will claim it can do) hypnosis is a very misunderstood and notably confusing phenominon that has EXTREEMELY predetermined uses as a treatment option (mostly used JUST surrounded by relaxing a patient contained by order to follow there problems, no represed memory bull no convincing you your a chicken etc thats adjectives bull)

if you question is will i stop smoking if i walk to this group and try hypnosis? you have a better haphazard of it then lacking!

why the seemeingly controdictory answers? simple. those who work with others EVEN JUST TALKING TO A FRIEND are more expected to quit then someone who go it alone. wnat a method thats more likely to work still? draw from one of those online no smoking packets from phillip morris (why not in attendance being forced to spend money offering this information) and stuff it out as you work. it only reinforces your current dedication. want more sustain? use the niccotine gums and patches (no niccotine is not doomed to failure for you it's just addictive, inhaling burning poison compounds which happen to be your current intake method IS. just as taking caffiene this course would be bad also)
don't spend in dribs and drabs your time and money on hypnosis. go beside a local (free!) group and talk to your friends and nearest and dearest and even coworkers. buy the gums and patches and work on it next to dedication. WANTING to quit is probably the most important step.
best prescription to stop smoking is accupuncture 100% effective
