Does anyone know a worthy non-medical treatment for periostitis(shin splints)?
Since there's no medical treatment, and it's only recommended to rest and cool the inflamed nouns, I want to know if anyone knows some traditional treatment that help relieving the pain from inflammation? Something that really works, that you've tried on youself, not something you've hear or read about.
Help appreciated. Thanks everybody.
Answer:
Deep tissue pat along the length of the shin from ankle to knees. The object is to remove as much fluid from the tissue..you can't do it yourself..it's too stinging but it does speed things up. I used to do about 8 minutes respectively leg on my athletes every other day. Ace wraps, cartridge..all that stuff...does nought for it. When finished with the polish, use an ice cup to alleviate the stomach-ache...5 minutes each leg.
Proper footwear is a huge operation, too. Not enough cushion within the heel and doing a lot of up mound walking or running will also bring on or worsen shin splints. If you have any point pain.small areas about the size of your finger tip that are super sensitive when you rub over them...move about see a doctor...you may have some stress fractures starting.
Rest is ultimately the best to restore to health this issue. Ibuprofen and lots of water will also support.
Good Luck.
As you mentioned, the obvious treatment is rest, rime, compression (wrap and tape), elevation, and anti-inflammatory meds like ibuprofen. Also, upright warm-ups, toe-tapping exercises (sit and raise foot toward body), shoe inserts, shoe replacement (buy shoes near torsion control, arch support, and stability such as cross-trainers), icy hot, absorbine junior before, during, and after exercise, etc. What worked for us be seeing a podiatrist and correcting the problem with orthotics. My son have loose connective tissue in his foot, flat feet, and deformed tendons, so.he needed orthotics made. It have helped tremendously. If you try everything else and still hold the problem, see a foot doctor. I also bought him pain nouns cream to rub on and have him thieve anti-inflammatory meds when he gets home from Track. We wrap his arches next to brown self-sticking wrap (available in foot piece and first aide section of drug store) and enjoy him wear arch supports (available in the drug store or from podiatrist). He also uses resistence band and strengthens his shins, feet and ankles to prevent injury. I buy him highly good shoes and replace them if they start to wear. It seem to be working very very well. The arch support and torsion control helped the most. He like asorbine junior and aspercream as well.
