I am assuming, because you placed this question below "Alternative" medicine that you are not seeking a prescriptive solution (i.e. sleeping pills). Try this... your brain processes information that is to say externally stimulated... for instance, try turning off the TV one hour formerly you go to bed... read, listen to soft music instead. A hot tub will relax your muscles... maybe put some lavender within the bath marine or use a lavender soap. A pleasant smell in the room help as well... lavender is excellent to sooth your spirit. Make sure here are no distracting lights...like the luminosity from your clock or radio. If you have one, set a cd player to travel off within a half-hour or 45 minutes... and play a soothing cd.
Also, remember that you should stick to a schedule. You might be going to bed too impulsive or getting up too late... take home sure you know how much sleep you need and after stick to a time schedule that will minister to you get that much sleep. Even if it medium you have to "tivo" your favorite show or shut rotten your phone... get to bed at an hour that will allow you to bring the proper amount of rest.
Exercising JUST before you shift to bed is not wise... it in reality increases your blood flow, giving you more energy. Try shifting your exercise routine to the morning or early afternoon.
Stop drinking about 2-3 hours formerly you go to bed as very well... your stomach is "working" and blood flow is increased during digestion... so you are not actually "ready" to lay down and progress to sleep!!!
Lastly, remember that our brain will continue to process "problems" until at hand is a solution... you might try writing down a certain problem or dare you are facing and tell yourself you will "worry" just about it or solve it tomorrow. Let it go for the evening previously you start preparing for bed.

Yes here is but you will have to see your Dr to bring a prescription.
Amitriptylene, 25mg, or less, taken at bed time will relief you get to sleep inside 30 minutes. I have be using it for 14 years now as a sleep aid and migraine eliminator.
It is originally prescibed for anxiety and depression but works powerfully for a sleep aid and chronic pain.

It adjectives depends on if this is an on going problem or temporary due to stress or something else going on within your life. Before drugs I would try taking a hot hip bath with Lavender bubbles and afterwards either drinking hot milk or a cup of Chamomile tea.
If this is not helping next I would go to the doctor and see something like sleeping pills. Drugs are not always the first or best answer.

In totalling to the wise proposal re lavender etc, I would emphasise clearing your mind of worries. The following worked for me once I had practiced a few times:
Think of a cove, nice sandy coast, warmth. There are some smallish rocks, not too sweet to pick up; each one represents a verbs - partner/(lack of...), work/(lack of...), illness, finances etc...
There is a boat on the shore. Pick up respectively 'worrry' in turn and put it into the boat. When they are adjectives in, detail the boat to sail away, and study it head road long-gone the headland... worries are gone, you can rest easy for the hours of darkness.

Prescription drugs are a least resort. Try tylenol pm or nyquil to give a hand you sleep. I also take a hot bubble hip bath and hot tea before bed.
Sleeping in good health is a result of the amount of Melatonin in your body. Melatonin is your innate body clock. It helps regulate sleepiness due the hours of darkness and wakefulness during the day. You want to look within to melatonin supplements or foods with dignified natural melatonin. For example, adjectives cherries are one of nature top source of unprocessed meltonin.
You can eat a handful of dried cherries or drink a chalice of cherry juice concentrate. I drink a cup of cherry juice roughly 2 hours before bed and sleep close to a baby. The Traverse Bay nouns of Michigan grows the most amount of tart cherries.
You shouldn't use melatonin if you are underneath 40. You've got adjectives the melatonin you need up until after.
You could try a little turkey to lead to your brain to release serotonin. Avoid caffeine and alcohol.
Do you snore? If you do, you may have undiagnosed sleep apnea.

I have closely of sleep problems due to a health condition. What the others enjoy said about clearing your mind is *so* considerable!! I try to meditate or do a little self-hypnosis earlier bed.
A warm tub is ALWAYS nice. I like to drink a cup of Sleepy Time Tea beside Valerian. I mix in a nice spoonful of powdered Cal-Mag (calcium/magnesium) - that help me relax quite a bit. I enjoy lavender in my pillow, but if I stipulation a little extra, I rub it into my temple.
Is your pillow in flawless shape? Your mattress? Is your sleeping area faint and dark? My husband can sleep contained by front of the TV - I can't. Too loud and too much light. You should try to keep hold of your bedroom as quiet as possible if you enjoy sleeping problems. I'm going to get a disc of nature sounds - waterfall, etc., to help combat the hullabaloo I hear from the highway.
Isn't it ironic that it's so darned hard to find a good hours of darkness of sleep? I mean, really - what sounds easier than sleeping?!? ;o)
