5-HTP Dosage?

I'd similar to to start taking 5-HTP to help with my lofty anxiety level and emotional form. The kind that I bought recommends taking 3 100mg tablets per daylight. Is this too high? I don't want any crazy side effects. Also, does it matter if it's taken beside meals or on an empty stomach? Thanks!!

Answer:    The Pill Book Guide To Natural Medicines (Mike Murray ND) recommend 50 mg 3 times a day to start, and increase to 100 mg 3 times daily after two weeks if you don't return with a good response. Don't take it if you are taking medication for depression! Nausea and drowsiness are the principal side effects and are more severe at high doses. Ask your druggist about side effects or interactions with other meds if you are taking any..
5-HTP is a sleep remedy so you may obtain very drowsy if you take it.

St John's Wort is recurrently recommended for anxiety.
