About gout and omega 3?
I am suffering gout I need to know omega 3 is harmful for me or not thanks
Answers:
Gout is caused/exacerbated by purine intake:
"Examples of big purine sources include: sweetbreads, anchovies, sardines, liver, beef kidneys, brains, meat extracts (e.g Oxo, Bovril), herring, mackerel, scallops, game meats, and gravy.
A moderate amount of purine is also contained in beef, pork, poultry, fish and seafood, asparagus, cauliflower, spinach, mushrooms, green peas, lentils, dried peas, beans, oatmeal, wheat bran, wheat germ, and hawthorn.
Higher level of meat and seafood consumption are associated with an increased risk of gout, whereas a higher level of consumption of dairy products is associated next to a decreased risk. Moderate intake of purine-rich vegetables or protein is not associated with an increased risk of gout."
If your omega 3 is coming from fish oils, next there could be a case for an increased intake of purine. If the omega 3 is a pure extract/synthesis then it's imagined you'll be ok. If you are following a low purine diet then the amount you might receive from fish oil based omega 3 is smaller quantity of a problem. Source(s): http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Purine
