Can anyone suggest cholesterol busters as an alternative to prescribed statins?
As statins have bad side effects for me I am searching for practical cholesterol busters -whole almonds for example. Any other suggestions?
Answers: Niacin is a good way of lowering your cholesterol. To quote the paper of register:
The New York Times just reported (1) that inexpensive vitamin B-3, niacin, "can increase HDL as much as 35 percent when taken in high doses, usually almost 2,000 milligrams per day. It also lowers LDL, . . . (and) triglycerides as much as 50 percent." The Times quoted Steven E. Nissen, M.D., president of the American College of Cardiology, as saying: "Niacin is really it. Nothing else available is that effective."
If you start low afterwards work your way up niacin or b3 can be a very helpful to your overall strategy of getting respectable. You might also consider vitamin c and lysine (an amino acid). Alfalfa, red yeast rice, and like the associates above said, GARLIC!! Garlic is the one I know most about. I'm sure you've seen it in capsule, but I love to buy it fresh and use it in everything, because it's so good for you in so tons different ways. Besides lowering cholesterol, it is anti-viral, anti-bacterial, and anti-fungal. (Anti-cancer!) It helps with allergies, strengthens blood vessels, and kill and expels parasites. (I feed my dog garlic capsules to back with fleas!) Plus, garlic just makes things zest good. Be sure to crush it, then chop it, (or put it in a garlic press) and consent to it sit for 10-15 minutes before cooking. This allows alliicin (a compound which gives garlic's health properties an extra boost, and also enhance flavor), to form. :) Also, don't cook it for too long.
