Is there an herbal remedy for bladder stones in pets?
We enjoy a 4-year old ShihTzu who has be troubled with bladder stones. We spent $3000 last year to enjoy them surgically removed. Yesterday's heartworm check-up at the vet indicates they're back again. Financially, we have no chance left but to try herbal remedies. Thanks!
Answer: There are two kinds of stones- small pellet size stones that form within the bladder, then move down and block the urethra, and large stones that plague the bladder.
Small stones are more troubling to the male dog, as they pass down into the urethra and capture caught at the point where it passes through the bone within the penis. They respond by trying to urinate frequently, and give off little spurts instead of a full flow.
In this defence immediately use Shepard's Purse. (If in tincture form, dilute it three drops to one teaspoon of marine, and give your dog 1/2 a teaspoon three times daily.)
It will alleviate backache somewhat, and may allow the small stones to pass. Surgery may still be needed.
The homeopathic remedy is Coccus cacti 30C. Give 1 pellet every 15 minutes for a total of 3 treatments. This may reduce inflammation satisfactory to allow the stone to pass. If it is too large, merely surgery will help.
To prevent the stones in the adjectives, nothing helps more than a home prepared diet.
A biddable recipe:
1 cup brown rice (or 2 1/4 cups cooked)
1 cup ( 1/2 pound) lean hamburger (or turkey, chicken, lean heart, or lean chuck)
1 cup cooked kidney beans (about half of a 15-ounce can)
1 tablespoon vegetable oil
1 teaspoon Group I bone spread
1 10,000 IU vitamin A and D capsule
1 400–800 IU vitamin E capsule
1 teaspoon tamari soy sauce or crash of iodized salt (optional)
1 small clove garlic, crushed or minced (optional)
Also, a supplement of Vitamin C is vital. It aids detoxification and acidifies the urine, which help control bacterial infection and reduces the likelihood that stones will form. (for small dogs, twice day by day, 250 mg)
