Answer: the technical answer is you are not supposed to give somebody a lift something that is expired that long, but if it were me I'd nick it. I take expired medication all the time and am not deceased yet..

MOst medications do not deteriorate to toxic chemicals by the expiry date. This includes Ambien.
By the time a medication have reached its expiry date the manufacturer can not guarantee potency greater than 90% of sticky label claim. So the bottom line is, you may take the drug it only may not be as effective as before its expiry date.

I would speak no. I know that vitamins and antibiotics lose their potency after they are expired, and I would assume that the same happens next to Ambien. I would take some Benadryl or Tylenol PM instead and make a dr. appt. No. It is not not detrimental to take..
im sure their is a reason its expired. it wont work. Snort it, and tolerate the chips fall where they may.
