You could not get the desired effect from Salvia by drinking or eating it because it metabolizes SO quickly surrounded by the body that the effectiveness is pretty much gone from the body before it can give you that big. Smoking is the only way I know of to get it to work effectively, and even at that, you hold to be quick and forceful about it. However, since it burns so hot and burning ANYTHING causes carcinogens, to be honest, I'd own to recommend against it. Maybe you could find something else that's not illegal that can get you buzzed... like "Robo-ing." where on earth you drink like 2 or 3 bottles of Robitussin (it may make you super sick, though,) and that'll make a human being trip like crazy! But if you buy it at the store, don't buy all 3 bottles at once! Stores (and cops, to an extent) keep an eye on that big-hearted of stuff.)
