Answer: The states that allows medical marijuana are Alaska, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Maine, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, Oregon, Rhode Island, Vermont, and Washington.
It's permissible by the states, but not federal government, but there's laws that protects medical marijuana patients.
By far the best state for medical marijuana is California (I live contained by Cali), we have a large inspection and our MMJ quality is way better. Plus, there's much more cannabis dispensaries over here than within any other state (especially in Hollywood).
Good links, try www.canorml.org and www.weedtracker.com
on both sites there's are listing of the physicians that can prescribe you a suggestion for medical marijuana.

Marijuana can not be "prescribed" by any doctor in any state. In order for a drug to be "prescribed" it have to be approved by the FDA.
However, in the 12 states that is it decriminalized, you need a doctor's "recommendation" in demand to get a medical marijuana ID card which will allow you to use and possess it.
Under state law, 12 states currently provide legalized protection for seriously ill patients whose doctors recommend the medical use of marijuana: Alaska, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Maine, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, Oregon, Rhode Island, Washington, and Vermont..
