My doctor told me to take vitamin a in doses of 80,000 i.u. a day, is this safe, he said this is like accutane
Answer: Well, if your doctor recommended it, I would assume he's got a good function for it. Normally, Vitamin A should be limited to 10,000 IU... but that's for normal care, not for deficiencies or certain diseases/ailments.
If you're worried in the order of it, I would suggest calling up the doctor's office and express your concern... the doctor should be able to put in the picture you exactly why they prescribed such a high dose and specify how long you should take it (if they haven't already)..
No it's not protected and most likely will make you sick near symptoms related to liver damage and fatigue the highest does is 25000IU you will probably vomit next to 80000IU. This also raises your fracture risk. Go to a dermatologist and get a letters for accutane or something equivalent. It is safe on a short term or intermittent idea only.
