What is the best over-the-counter medication to thieve when you own a severe sore throat?
I just got over a really bad sinus infection and in a minute I have a really bad sore throat. I'm pretty sure it isn't strep throat because I don't have a disorientation or white spots on my tonsils. I am a vocal music major and I need my voice posterior asap. Please help!
Answers: Go to the drug store and get a throat lozenge that contains pectin as the active ingredient - it is a demulcent (a fancy latin word for "make slippery" - but in this case, it means soothing) that coats the throat so it doesn't grain so raw and scratchy.
Halls makes one in a blue purse - they are fruit flavored and I think they are called "breezers" and robitussin makes a teddy bear bear shaped lolly pop lozenge that works well too...but I don't remember the name.
Stay away from menthol - they friendly the nasal passages, but can be irritating to a throat that is already prickly.
