What is Tiger Balm made from?
I've hear it mentioned somewhere & the fact it's available in chinese herbal shops only just threw me. Don't they use animal parts in their medicines??
Curiosity sake.
Answer: Camphor and Menthol..
insensible tiger bones Or if you have male friend, do not rub it aroud his genitals. its hell!.
Saga Sue & Owen B are both correct surrounded by their ingredients.
there are absolutely no animal products contained by Tiger Balm.
However, the base is mineral oil, which is immersed by your cells & drys them out & is quite toxic really, so surrounded by all honesty Vicks is just almost as safe (though it is made by evil pharmacueticals!).
Don't listen to any of these phoney bozos. Tiger Balm is well specified to be made of the lard of nearly extinct
Tiger Whales from the Indian Ocean. Buying tiger balm only supports the slaughter of these poor creatures.
Use Vicks Vapo Rub instead..
I read the sign in Wallgreens the other day. The underpinning is an oil, the main ingredients are menthol and herbal. I didn't see any animal parts. But the ingredients be listed, so it should be easy for you to look it up. Barmy tigers.
A Chinese herbalist living surrounded by Rangoon developed a balm made from essential oils using an ancient formulation originally developed for Chinese emperors. He sold it from his Rangoon medicine shop and after his release one of his two sons began selling the product in Malaysia and Singapore.
As a symbol of the potency of the balm, he would travel next to a tiger – the symbol of strength and vitality in the East. During the 1920’s, his sons established a engineering base in Singapore and name the product Tiger Balm.
Tiger balm does not contain any animal parts. The active ingredients are camphor, menthol, cajuput oil, mint grease and clove oil.
Camphor - Has a strong penetrating, fragrant odour and act as a rubefacient and numbs the peripheral nerves.
Menthol - Has a local anaesthetic action.
Cajuput Oil - Acts as a stimulant to produce a sensation of temperature.
Clove Oil - Acts as an irritant and a local anaesthetic.
The active ingredients in camphor and the essential oil in Tiger Balm dilate the peripheral blood vessel and bring blood closer to the skin’s surface. This produces increased circulation and warmth. The increase in blood flow speeds up the beneficial process. This also increases the temperature of the skin and the sensation of warmth serves as a distraction from the spasm. The local analgesic effect reduces the sensation of pain.
Hope that help!.
The 'tiger' is just a adman's gimmick. No tiger parts or animal ingredients are used. Irn Bru contains no iron, either. camphor, menthol, cajuput grease and clove oil.
i think its menthol and eucalyptus...great stuff though..but dont, please dont, procure it in your eye.it really really hurts
