Why is blood pressure taken this opening?
why is blood pressure taken in the upper arm at the same height as the heart?
tnx!
Answers: If BP is taken on the arm when below the heart, in attendance will be more blood "weighing down" on those arteries from the body, so the reading will be too high. If the arm is above the heart, much of the blood will flow back into the body, reducing the pressure and cause the reading to be too low.
You *can* take blood pressure from the leg too, but it's usually just easier to do it with the arm. Also, blood pressure within the leg is different than the arm and less-commonly used. Therefore, it's usually easier to compare blood pressure from the arm to normal and abnormal ranges, because there aren't frequent readily-accessible ranges for leg BP. If you're closer to the heart the pressure is higher because the blood has purely been forced out. It's like a hose.when you're close to the opening it is a stronger force than when you move far away.It is possible to bear the blood pressure on the forearm or leg but it's not as accurate because the pressure is lower and harder to detect.
